Making a Difference in the World – Amanda Royal, LPTA

Amanda Royal PTA Foley 2.JPG

Amanda Royal loves being a Physical Therapist Assistant! Her favorite part of her work is helping people return to an active lifestyle. Amanda says, “The reward is when your patients cry and hug you and tell you ‘thank you for helping me walk again!’ This job is rewarding in so many ways, it’s almost hard to describe, but knowing I’m making a difference in this world through physical therapy is all I ever wanted.”

Making a difference is something Amanda also does away from her daily career. Amanda serves as a US Navy Reservist. She recently completed A School Training as a Hospital Corpsman at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where she was on the Dean’s List.

Encore Rehabilitation-Foley is very proud of Amanda for serving the Foley community and in the US Navy Reserve!

Heather Bland Montgomery East Revised

Recovery from surgery can be challenging. Just ask Heather Bland. She was recently recovering from rotator cuff and bicep tendon repair surgery. A friend recommended she go to Encore Rehabilitation-Montgomery East for her physical therapy.

Heather tells about her rehabilitation at Encore: “Tyson and Lauren have helped me work on rehabbing my shoulder after surgery. My surgeon was impressed at how well I was able to move my shoulder just weeks later.”

“Tyson and Lauren were also great at explaining why we do what we do each visit along with what to expect afterwards.”

Thank you, Heather, for sharing your experience at Encore Rehabilitation!

Regional Director Tyson Crisman, PT, sees patients at Encore Rehabilitation-Montgomery East, while Lauren Luke, DPT, is the Clinical Director at our new location-Encore Rehabilitation-Pike Road.

Exercise May Improve Memory

walk-2635038_1920

For many Americans, January is a time to set goals concerning exercise for weight loss and heart health. Now there may be one more reason to exercise – to improve memory.

According to a study by the Mayo Clinic, a new guideline for medical practitioners recommends twice-weekly exercise for people with mild cognitive impairment to improve memory and thinking.

“Regular physical exercise has long been shown to have heart health benefits, and now we can say exercise also may help improve memory for people with mild cognitive impairment,” says Ronald Petersen, M.D., Ph.D., lead author, director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Mayo Clinic, and the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging. “What’s good for your heart can be good for your brain.” Dr. Petersen is the Cora Kanow Professor of Alzheimer’s Disease Research.

Petersen defines mild cognitive impairment as “an intermediate stage between the expected cognitive decline of normal aging and the more serious decline of dementia. Symptoms can involve problems with memory, language, thinking and judgment that are greater than normal age-related changes.”

Mac Burt is a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) at Encore Rehabilitation-Foley, Alabama. When I see a person do something that they were not able to do before therapy, it reminds me of why I do what I do.”

Thank you, Mac, for all you do for your patients and for Encore Rehabilitation!
